Some might say the scene with the rabbits in the trunk has something to do with the loner theme or the homoerotic theme.

Rabbits, after all, symbolize heterosexuality and fertility, the cornerstone of domesticity. The raccoon is often seen as a symbol of the bandit (a lone warrior.)

The redneck rides with the raccoon by his side, while the bunnies are confined to the trunk (and later shot at.)
